New Year – New Intentions: Creating New Good

New Intentions for New YearThis blog post, New Year – New Intentions, is taken from a 5 minute talk or Creative Thought by Reverend Kathy Lyons, given at the Center for Spiritual Living Granada Hills during one of the services. Her creative thought is followed by her Affirmative Prayer Treatment for New Year’s Intentions

“We have been given the ability to initiate a new chain of causation. There is but One mind and we use It. The laws of nature are universal, but our use of them is individual and personal.”

Ernest Holmes, 365 Science of Mind, thought for January 1

Here it is a brand new year – 2016. Although I enjoy the holiday celebrations, I also like it when the year closes; I put away the holiday decorations and return to a normal routine.

The New Year is starting out fresh and is a promise of new beginnings and a time to set new intentions. December 21 is the darkest day of the year. In the new year, the days gradually become longer. In the winter when I’m driving to work, the sun is just starting to rise. I think, “It’s the dawn of a new day.” In January, it is the dawn of a new year – a time to release what no longer serves me, and set new intentions for 2016.

Letting Go of the Old

The first step in a new year is to release anything that no longer serves us. Catherine Ponder calls this the Vacuum Law of Prosperity. Nature abhors a vacuum, so once we release what we don’t need; something new will fill in the space.

The vacuum law presented itself to me over a year ago with my computer. My email box got so full that I could no longer receive new emails. I had to delete hundreds of messages – most of which were of no interest to me. Most were advertisements or spam mail. Once I cleaned out the message box, I was able to receive new messages. The same principle exists not only for material possession, but with outworn beliefs, feelings, or habits.

If we desire to make a change in our life, we must release the belief that it is not possible, or that we are not worthy. To make room for love in our life, it may be necessary let go of any anger or resentment we may be harboring. For better health, it would be releasing a habit such as snacking in front of the television.

Set an Intention for What You Desire

“Thou shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee and the light shall shine on thy ways.”

–Job 22:28

Now that you have released what you don’t want, it’s important to focus you what you do desire. You can begin by asking yourself, “What are your values?” A value is something is that is important to us and to our life. From values, we set our intentions. Deepak Chopra said “Intent is a single-minded purpose. It is not countermanded by any other conflicting desires or interests.”

Usually, goals come from the following areas of life – health, relationships, finances, and career. Determine your values in these areas, which will help decipher what you desire. For example, for me, a comfortable home is an important value. Thus, I set the intention to pay for double pane windows for my home this year.

Write down your desires, and not only envision them, but feel what it would be like when you accomplish your goals. Three years ago, when I was recovering from hip replacement surgery, I imagined what it would feel like to be walking comfortably. I’m sure that contributed to my speedy recovery. To quote Stephen Covey, “Begin with the end in mind.” For additional support in setting a new intention for a new goal, hire a licensed Center for Spiritual Practitioner for support. Practitioners are also available at the conclusion of our Sunday service for a free, “1-Minute Miracle.”

Moving Forward

What next? Of course, moving your feet! In prayer and meditation, be open to guidance for a plan of action. Have the courage to step out of your comfort zone, and do it! As Mary Morrissey says, “Vision without action is merely entertainment.”

Blessings for a Wonderful New Year!

Treatment for New Year’s Intentions

Affirmative Prayer Treatment is a form of prayer used by Dr. Ernest Holmes, founder of Religious Science and author of The Science of Mind as well as many other metaphysical works. A treatment is focused on a positive outcome rather than a negative situation. If you want to manifest a certain condition (perfect health, wealth, or relationships for example), say the treatment out loud as the truth, knowing that it is so!

“I recognize that there is One Power, One Universal Intelligence, and I choose to call that God. God is love and companionship; health and vitality; financial wealth and abundance; creativity and right livelihood. I am One with this Intelligence; therefore I am health and vitality; financial wealth and abundance; creativity and right livelihood.

This is the dawning of a New Year, and I am open to new, exciting good in my life. I am free from outworn beliefs, ideas, things, or activities that no longer serve me. This year is a clean slate, a blank canvas, where I set new intentions on my highest values. Now, I am living in the present moment, creating my highest and best in all areas of my life – loving relationships and companions; optimum health and vitality; financial freedom, wisdom, and wealth; and creative fulfillment. Also, my decisions are not only in my highest good, but for the highest good of all. I support others and others support me.

My Divine Plan is now unfolding. As I set my intention, I am guided on taking the perfect plan of action, and I do it with ease. My confidence soars as I move forward with my purpose.

I give thanks that all my intentions that are demonstrating in my life right now. I am so happy and grateful to be experiencing perfect health, loving relationships, financial abundance, and creative expression right now. I release my word into the Law, knowing it is so. And so it is.”

How to Guide Your Animal’s End of Life with Spiritual Mind Treatment

Animal End of LifeThis blog post is by Reverend Kathy Lyons. It includes stories about how spiritual mind treatment has helped animal lovers and their animal(s) at end of their life. It includes a free spiritual mind treatment guideline (at the end of this post) that you can use immediately for your animal.

Rev Kathy founded and facilitates the Animal Kinship Ministry group meeting at 1 PM on the first Saturday of each month at Center for Spiritual Living Granada Hills.

“Infinite Intelligence illumines and directs this animal. It is a perfect idea in Divine Mind and is always in its right place”

— Florence Scovel Shinn, The Game of Life and How to Play It

As a Spiritual Practitioner, I know that the power of Spiritual Mind Treatment (affirmative prayer) works for everything and everyone, including our beloved animal companions. There is One Mind and we are all interconnected, so we can connect with our beloved animal on a heart-to-heart and soul-to-soul level.

For instance, my cats seem to intuitively know what’s on my mind! I have their carrier at the bottom of my stairs by the front door. I go down stairs a few times a day. However, when it’s time for their dreaded Vet appointment and I walk downstairs, they immediately hide. How could they know? Perhaps it’s because animals are not as intellectually developed as humans. They are much more sensitive to body language, feelings, and good or bad “vibes.”

My cats often know answers to decisions before I do. Several years ago, I wanted to have new flooring put in my kitchen. I had a few contractors come to my home to give an estimate. One man came to my home and sat at my dining room table. Precious, my very gregarious Siamese didn’t like this man. His short hair stood up all over his body, including his tail! I knew Precious was telling me not to hire this man, as Precious is usually everyone’s friend.

There is a deep emotional connection with my beloved companions as well. They know when I’m upset. When I was a teenager and had an upsetting day, my cute tabby cat Botchie, would snuggle up to me. And I remember the family dog, John, a Springer Spaniel, was particularly sensitive. A friend of my mother’s came over, very upset about something and crying. John sat beside her, and put his paw on her lap. He knew when to comfort people in distress.

Due to this deep bond with our animals, it’s possible to intuit our animal‘s needs as well. During meditation, I ask for guidance and if there’s anything I need to know for my animal.

One of the times when it’s important to get in touch with Divine Guidance is at the end of our beloved’s life. This is a painful time, as we must make a decision: Do we attempt to extend their life on earth with veterinary treatment? Is it time to euthanize our sweet companion? Or, the other option, give “hospice” care and simply provide comfort until their end of life? There is no one “right” answer; every situation is unique. Discuss the matter with your Vet, and ask your inner voice of wisdom on what is in the highest good for your companion. Here are examples of the three options: Medical Intervention, Euthanasia, or Hospice.

Medical Intervention for Your Animal’s End of Life

My good friend, Barbara, had a beautiful Main Coon cat named Gus. She adopted him in 2002. When Gus was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on his back leg, Barbara chose surgery. When the tumor came back, Gus required an amputation. She was able to get financial support via Go Fund Me as well as from family. After the surgery, Gus did have some challenges. He wasn’t eating, and he lost some blood. Barbara was faced with a decision, so she asked me to provide prayer support (Spiritual Mind Treatment) on what was needed to achieve Gus’s highest good.

Gus received Spiritual Prayer Treatment for healing after surgery

After the spiritual treatment, Gus began to recover, adjusting to his missing leg. He became more content. In this case, Barbara tuned in to what was best for Gus, and surgery was the answer.

When Euthanasia Is the Right Option for Your Animal

Sometimes, euthanasia is the best option for your loved one. It is painful, but I believe your animal will let you know when it’s time. In 1998, my darling Daisy, a gorgeous tortoiseshell cat, quit eating. She was only thirteen and a half, and her symptoms came on so suddenly, so I was completely unprepared (like is anyone ever prepared) to lose her. The vet said she had liver problems. She did have some medical treatment; however, she wasn’t getting any better. She was getting thinner and was constantly trying to crawl under furniture.

I had a prayer partner at the time and we did Spiritual Mind Treatment for guidance. I knew that Daisy was telling me it was time to go. I’ve observed that animals do not fear death; it’s like they accept it as a natural part of their evolution. I mourned her loss, and seventeen years later, I still miss that cat! We went through so much together. She was a comfort to me when my Dad died, as well as during my divorce.

Most vets will allow you to spend some time with your “child” before they give the final shot. Also, you may stay in the room so he or she leaves this planet with their trusted guardian. There is in-home euthanasia available (see link at the end of this blog).

When Euthanasia is NOT an Option for Your Animal

Euthanasia is not an option for a healthy animal because the guardian decided the animal isn’t working out in their home. If there is a reason that you cannot be a guardian (i.e. moving to a place that does not allow animals), please look to finding a new home or surrender the animal to a no-kill shelter or pet adoption.

If your animal has a behavior problem, there are experts who can help with changing their behavior. If your animal is peeing or pooping in an inappropriate place, take him or her to the vet because there could be a medical problem. Sometimes, they are giving you a message. Get in touch with what they are trying to tell you. I had a cat named George who would poop outside his litter box. He walked out of the cat box room with this head ducked, so he knew it wasn’t right. When I took out the carpet in that room and replaced it with flooring, he resumed using the litter box. I speculate that George smelled the previous cats that previously lived here (his “cousins” Molly and Suki, my brother’s female cats).

Is Hospice The Right Choice for Your Animal?

Hospice is another option. In 2003, my cat, Sweetie, was diagnosed with mammary cancer. The Vet said she could have surgery and chemotherapy. I knew this was an option, but I treated (affirmatively prayed) for guidance for the highest and best for her. I declined on the medical treatment, but I didn’t feel it was yet time for euthanasia. She was still eating and wasn’t in pain. I brought her home and let her live as long as she was comfortable. When I could tell it was her time (she quit eating and became quit thin), I made the decision to put her down (and send her to the Rainbow Bridge).

Many people opt to let their baby make their transition naturally at home as well. Also, there are some vets who will come to your home to administer the shot in the comfort and familiar surroundings of their home.

Remember, tune in to guidance about the right decision that is in the highest and best for your animal, and not your own personal attachment. I would love my cats to live forty years, but currently that is not possible.

Affirmative Prayer Treatment: Prosper and Thrive in 2015!

FireworksThis post includes an Affirmative Prayer Treatment by Reverend Kathy Lyons.

I recognize that there is One Power, One Presence, which is God. God is love, perfect health, abundant wealth, and creativity. God is everywhere present, expressing through me as me as loving and joyful relationships, health and vitality, financial prosperity, creativity and Divine livelihood.

I declare that right now that I prosper and thrive in 20-1-5. As I mediate and contemplate this Magnificent Presence within, I accept greater good into my life. I thrive with perfect health. I love and nurture my physical body, so I intuitively know how to nourish it with the perfect nutrition, activity, and rest. I am a lovable, supportive, and wonderful companion, so I attract loving, supportive companions. God is my Source and supply, so I am prospering financially. I embody Divine financial wisdom, freedom, and wealth, so I have plenty to share and to spare. I embody unique talents and skills, so my Divine purpose is now revealed to me, and I am expressing it with passion. Therefore, I flourish in my career.

The New Year is a time of renewal and new beginnings. Life is an adventure, so I am open to new and exciting experiences. Any desire that I have is now accessible to me. There is no big or small in the Mind of God, so all the channels are open for me to receive it now. I prosper and thrive 20-1-5!

I am so thankful and appreciative for the new beginnings that I am experiencing right now – loving relationships, perfect health, abundant wealth, and creativity. My heart is filled with gratitude as I prosper and thrive in 20-1-5!

I release my word into the Infinite Mind of God, knowing it is done. And so it is.
