#AWorldThatWorksForEveryone: The 2015 Centers for Spiritual Living Convention

Seven of us from CSL Granada Hills went to the Centers for Spiritual Living Convention back in February 2015 in Las Vegas. We learned a lot and grew in consciousness. We met up with our sister and brother centers. We shared, had fun, and partied hearty.

I came home with this T-Shirt from Center for Spiritual Living Apple Valley.

We did “UP” our consciousness, growing down our spiritual paths. Rev. Mike even demonstrated something he’s wanted – more hair!

Manifesting Hair

Now that’s a manifestation!

There are more stories, but, as we all know, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

The CSL Vision and Mission

CSL Convention #AWorldThatWorksForEveryoneI was thrilled to hear our leaders focus on the Center for Spiritual Living movement’s mission rather than the administration. We heard about our vision/mission focus: envisioning a world that works for everyone – where each and every person has enough food, a home, and a sense of belonging.

Knowing a world in which kinship with all life prospers and connects through the guidance of spiritual wisdom and experience.

We are meaningfully involved with service to the world.

We are open, receptive, and welcoming of all people, all faiths and all pets to God. (That had Rev. Kathy very excited with her Animal Kinship Ministry here at Granada Hills!)

Inspiration and Motivation at the Convention

CSL’s Spiritual Leader, Dr. Kenn Gordon,  reminded us that as God is all there is, we are always at choice as to where we put our focus.

…That our individual spiritual practice is the most important thing we have in our teaching.

(For your own inspiration, watch this 2 minute video by Dr. Kenn on YouTube. To purchase recordings of the convention sessions, visit this site.)

It was all very inspiring! And then, after each presentation, we were thrown out into the casino, because every hallway and door leads to casino. Here I was in Vegas, feeling very uplifted. I wanted to take it out into the world!

Taking the CSL Message to the World on the Vegas Monorail

Vegas MonorailOne night, while I was riding the monorail around, I chatted with the person next to me. I asked the woman where she was going and she said she liked the slots at the MGM. She asked me what I was in Vegas for. I told her I was at a convention. She asked me for what organization.

Here’s what I told her: We belong to a global enterprise. We’ve got outlets all around the world.

We visit people in hospitals, prisons, and hospice centers. We have youth programs. We feed the homeless; we have educational programs. We look after people from birth to death, creating a world that world for everyone. And, we basically deal with giving people tools to change their thinking to change their life for the better.

She said “Wow!” And asked, “What organization is that – one that does so much?

I felt great telling her, “Centers for Spiritual Living.”

I came away from the convention feeling that this movement, this organization that I belong to – Centers for Spiritual Living – is very much in alignment with my individual personal path.

I am grateful for all of us here at Center for Spiritual Living Granada Hills coming together in spiritual community not just to socialize and have fun together (and believe me, I love doing that), but that we do focus on being meaningfully involved with service to the world; creating a world that works for everyone.

We Are All Trust Fund Babies!

IN GOD WE TRUSTcollageYou all know what a Trust Fund Baby is, yes?

A young person whose parents are wealthy and have set up a trust for their son or daughter. The trust fund ensures that the child will be taken care of financially for life.

Recently I told the Wednesday Night “Practicing the Presence” crowd at the Center for Spiritual Living Granada Hills that we are all trust fund babies.  In fact, our trust fund is bigger than any financial trust fund that has ever been set up for a child. Because our source and supply of all life is God and we know that we are not separate from God,  we have an infinite trust fund at our disposal. Our trust fund has more than money in it – it has everything that God is – love, peace, joy, light, beauty, health, power, life, creativity. Literally, more than we can imagine.

The challenge is to have access to our trust fund when we need it.  And that has everything to do with our mindset. People who use the Science of Mind tools have better access to infinite Source because of how we live.  We create a mindset that has an easy access to God.

We are our own best way to our infinite trust fund.

We can live life feeling good- healthy, wealthy, and wise no matter what condition our lives look like. We know we were not sent into the world to live a defeated, sick, unhappy life. We are ordained for happiness, health and prosperity.

Science of Mind says we demonstrate according to the level of our own thinking. An unhappy person will reflect conditions of unhappiness. A person with poverty consciousness cannot accept prosperity. Success and prosperity are spiritual attributes belonging to all people, but not necessarily used by all people.  In Science of Mind we learn how to use our spiritual attributes. But it is not a “get-rich-quick” scheme; Science of Mind has never promised something for nothing. It does promise us that we manifest according to the nature of our consciousness.

The whole purpose of the universe is to grant us the very best. God ensures us that we are taken care of for life.  And, guess what? Our money reminds us all the time that we are Trust Fund Babies-

Prosperity Isn’t about Asking God for Things

Manifestation Goody BagAt our Center we just started the ten-week Prosperity Plus II course with Mary Manning Morrissey. Mary relentlessly talks about the spiritual principle behind manifestation. Her core message is about so much more than just getting things from what some call the “Manifestation Goody Bag” – the parking spots, cars, computers – the things many people get by using the Law of Attraction or “The Secret.”

Being in the class strengthens prosperity consciousness – knowing it is God’s unlimited life that we live in every moment.  We are naturally prosperous all the time.

I live in Acton and every workday I have a 90-mile roundtrip commute. When I moved up there I was worried, because I’m prone to speeding and that 25-mile stretch on the 14 freeway is free sailing. I do love the drive – I pray for folks on my prayer list. I affirm that my drive is safe, easy and without speeding tickets. I’ve been doing this drive for five years now.

A couple of Sundays ago while I was driving down for service at the Center, I was not mindful and I got a speeding ticket. What a wonderful opportunity to observe my habitual patterns float to the surface. I was angry because I had affirmed not getting a speeding ticket!  “What’s up with that?!

Here’s what’s up with that – it’s not about getting things (the Manifestation Goody Bag), but it is all about waking up to our Oneness with the infinite nature of God.

Yes, our Science of Mind teaching does include talk about manifestation and demonstration:

Creative Process sequence starts with pure Intelligence; movement of intelligence, which is intelligence becoming aware of something. The Law of Mind set in motion by consciousness, followed by the objective manifestation, or the demonstration.

–Ernest Holmes

Some people make the mistake of taking that description of how life works and turning it into getting more things in their life.

I got angry about the ticket because I expected to manifest a goody in the form of “I don’t deserve a ticket.” The truth is that I was clocked at 86 miles an hour, driving unconsciously! I had affirmed safety and God showed up as the CHP to bring me to mindfulness and safety.

Prosperity is not about manifesting goodies. When we really have the direct experience of knowing that we live God’s infinite life, then the Universe rushes in to give us exactly what we need. When I pray for things instead of affirming to know the truth, I limit myself.

God is unlimited, I am unlimited. God is, I am.

I invite all us to stop limiting ourselves to the Manifestation Goody Bag and go for living the truth. Let love wash through all of our habitual patterns to wake us up to our eternal prosperity.
